Assignment 1 Notes:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For my first Riso animation, I ended up using some footage from a rainy day from earlier this Summer. For my first 2 attempts I actually animated some Arabic calligraphy in AfterEffects, but due to technical difficulties I\u2019ve been having with the program all week I had to scrap that idea. This moment alone made me realize the possibilities with this method of \u201canimating\u201d as I\u2019ve only ever used AE for creating animations\/moving graphics. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I mainly chose this video because of the calm (but slightly dramatic) movements of the tree and the texture of the rain. I thought it would be interesting to see these layers of textures in print. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here, I left out the black channel, kept the cyan channel separate, and combined the magenta with the yellow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The printing process was a lot of fun to learn. It feels less daunting once you get the hang of it. Although I do think I need some practice in the color separation process (knowing how to layer certain colors\/blend modes to get a certain outcome). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I printed my first layer (the cyan layer) in fluorescent pink and my second layer (the magenta + yellow layer) in blue. Honestly, I love how these turned out as is. Gave some copies to my friends to put up as posters!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Layering the blue on top of the pink gave the prints a more purple color, another pretty outcome. Again, this just makes me want to trial-and-error a bunch of different color combinations and opacities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When I was finally ready to animate, I was both reminded and saddened that my AfterEffects was still crashing. I know I\u2019d like the process of stitching together the frames in AE more because of my comfort level and because of the ease of control I\u2019d have. Although the coding process was a little frustrating in the animation process, I was still able to produce a moving image on p5.js! However, I don\u2019t think I was successful in creating a seamless\/smooth animation (I had a little trouble with adding the second sheet) What I appreciate about this process is the experimentation it allows with room for possible interactivity (i.e. mouse effects\/functions)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
